Dolphin calling for help released safely

A dolphin’s whistles for help were heard by the construction owner Leon, who found the animal stuck on the banks of Helford River, Cornwell, separated from its pod. After he realized that he would be unable to help the animal out of the riverbed and along the three-mile journey to the nearest sea, Leon phoned the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR). The three hours waiting for the volunteer team to arrive were spent trying to calm the gasping animal down, which did work out as the dolphin reportedly pressed up against his leg and started to breathe a bit more calmly.

The professional then rolled the dolphin onto a tarpaulin and lifted it into the vessel. After a five-hour rescue mission, the animal was released back into the water in a bay far enough away from the area that is well known as a stranding trap for dolphins. Encouragingly, it quickly showed signs of wanting to swim and disappeared off into deeper waters. Leon says “it felt really good [to see the dolphin swimming off.] I was so glad it had a happy ending.”

Leon (left) found the dolphin in distress and called the BDMLR team to rescue the animal.
