The male mink whale was discovered trashing in the rocks in Loch Eport in North Uist, UK. It became stuck in the narrow channel shortly before low tide.
Though a local coastguard team, as well as volunteers from the Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme, were alerted and arrived at the scene shortly after, the animal died a short time later. Reason of death was most likely the stranding itself, as the animal was in good nutritional condition and its injuries were consistent with live stranding. However, it might have still been maternally dependent.
