According to the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, Bottlenose dolphins are rarely live stranded. Nevertheless, it was thanks to a quick thinking local and three volunteers that exactly such a case could be prevented in Galway Bay, Ireland.
After hearing about the local dolphin Nimmo being spotted in calm waters near a lighthouse, Jason “just knew it was in trouble”. Arriving at said place, he found the dolphin out of water alive with the tide going back out. The spontaneous help of passer-bys and their scarves finally enabled them to move the dolphin and carry it to the back of the island with deeper water. It was getting dark by the time they arrived, all standing in the water, watching the dolphin swim away with a final push. Jason recaps, “I can’t explain how I felt, we did it as a team.”
Since there have been no reports on any dolphin strandings since then, it can be assumed that the dolphin got away safely.
