The fin whale calf that seemed to have been successfully refloated during the weekend after stranding in the River Dee Estuary has been found stranded on a sandbank this morning. The coastguard sent a drone to check on the whale as the water was far too dangerous to send anyone out. NRW recounts that "sadly there appeared to be no signs of life left".
The whale will now be recovered under authority of Natural Resources Wales to assist the post-mortem examination through the UK Cetacean Stranding Investigation Programme.
