Mass stranding of dolphins off French Coast

Up to 40% of the world’s annual catch is accidental non-target marine species known as by-catch. Since January 2019, more than 1,100 dolphins were found stranded along the Atlantic coast of France. Yet, the death toll could be up to 10 times higher. The causal explanation has yet to be determined. However, autopsies suggest they sustained high levels of injuries trying to escape nets.
